I want to share my son's art. He left us, age six, a year ago on the 25th March 2021, just as the bluebells were coming. Asked what he'd be when he grew up he said he was already an artist.
What I love about this painting is that the sun is setting between two horizons, between the ocean and the mountains. I started explaining this to him as though it were a negative, a fault, because it didn't make sense but then I stopped myself because I thought, actually it doesn't matter; because that's the beauty of being a child isn't it. It was a gift to my Dad on his 70th Birthday. I am thrilled by it every time I walk into his kitchen and he loves it too. A friend of mine gave me a picture she drew of James painting rainbows in the sky and that's how I think of him.
